Lightner Museum has been a part of St.Augustine’s community since 1888 when it first opened its doors as the Hotel Alcazar. In 1948, years after the luxury resort closed its doors, The Lightner Museum opened in its place, showcasing the personal collections of the famed collector, Otto Lightner.


Since that day, the Lightner Museum has enchanted every guest who visited, with its exquisitely ornate exterior and with the vast treasures found within. Nowadays, visitors can find collections sourced from around the world. From fine art paintings and sculptures to more eccentric collections such as Floriform vases and salt shakers, each exhibition is sure to leave a lasting impression.


Many of the exhibitions are temporary, though there are several permanent collections on display, allowing visitors to glimpse into the rich history of the city.

Micro Masterpieces Art Gallery

Found at the same address as the Medieval Torture Museum, the Micro Masterpieces Art Gallery offers a more lighthearted experience. You’ll be able to gaze upon some of the smallest pieces of artwork in the world, many of which can’t be seen with the naked eye.

The Spanish Military Hospital Museum won’t disappoint.


Located on the oldest street in the continental United States, the museum is a reconstruction of a military hospital that was on the same site in the late 18th century. Inside, visitors will experience some of the “cutting edge” practices of the time, including demonstrations of authentic period surgical procedures, how apothecaries created medicine, the development of medical practices still in use today, and so much more.


St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum

St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum is a wonderful experience depicting the Golden Age of Piracy. The museum is themed to resemble Port Royal, Jamaica, creating an immersive experience. Thanks to their relationships with the Smithsonian Institution and the state of Florida, the museum features over 800 authentic artifacts that show the history of piracy from the 17th century to the present.


Both factual and fictional aspects of pirates are examined here and you’ll be able to find in-depth information on influential pirates who frequented St. Augustine, such as Sir Francis Drake.


St. Augustine Shipwreck Museum
