December is one of the busiest months for St. Augustine! With the popular Nights of Lights Celebration underway, annual events take place each and every week leading up to Christmas right here in the nation’s oldest city! The first weekend in December is no exception; in fact, this very Saturday is literally packed with fun and exciting history being re-told throughout the day and leading into the night!
Officially known as British Night Watch Weekend, more fun will follow the Annual Christmas Parade that wraps through downtown St. Augustine first thing in the morning.
During this historical event visitors and locals celebrate the anniversary of Florida's designation as a British colony. As an added bonus this very Saturday, PAL day is recognized. On PAL Day, all active, veteran, and retired military along with their dependents are able to enjoy all St. Augustine’s attractions for FREE. This includes the trolley as well!
This year's British Night Watch weekend event features two days of immersion into the Sunshine State's British past with tours of an army camp, sutlers, demonstrations and the ever-popular Night Watch parade through the streets of St. Augustine at night.
The British Colonial Encampment at Francis Field on West Castillo Drive is also open to the public 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturday. The colorful Grande Illumination Parade begins at 8 p.m. at the Plaza de la Constitucion and the public is encouraged to join in and march behind the Redcoats as they circle the historic district before returning to the Plaza where they will fire musket Volleys of Joy — followed by Christmas caroling at 26 Cathedral Pl., St. Augustine.
All of this takes place just outside our front door! Within walking distance of all the holiday action, the Agustin Inn is located in the heart of the historic district! No driving or parking worries involved! Be sure to book your stay ahead and very few or any walk-ins or last minute stays will be available in town this weekend. Don’t miss out on this exciting weekend!
