St. Augustine Amphitheatre
The most prominent venue and performing arts center in the Old City is the St. Augustine
Amphitheatre. The Saint Augustine Amphitheatre was
originally constructed in 1965, to mark St. Augustine's
monumental 400th Anniversary. Located in a gorgeous area
of Anastasia State Park,
the St Augustine Amphitheatre was built at the site of
the old St. Augustine FL quarry where coquina rock was
harvested and used to construct the
Fort Castillo de San Marcos.
For more than 32 years, the St. Augustine Amphitheatre was the home of the "Official
State Play of Florida," the Cross & Sword production,
which told the story of the European
settlement and founding of St. Augustine by Don Pedro Menendez de
Aviles. In 1996, the show commenced its last
performance and today, the St. Augustine Amphitheatre has
welcomed many new and old artists to its stage after its
restoration in 2002.
The
primary reason for the St. Augustine Amphitheatre
makeover was to increase its capacity. Renovations also
included a brand new conference room, four concession
stands, a merchandising area, a grand plaza, and a
lovely arboretum which also features walking trails. Our
