The Saint Augustine Lighthouse is located on the northern end of Anastasia Island. The massive tower took three years to build and was finally completed in 1874. It replaced the original St. Augustine Light House, which was located about 500 yards out to sea and fell into the ocean in 1880. Rising 165 feet above sea level, the Saint Augustine Lighthouse has over 219 steps you must climb in order to reach the top, as the lighthouse has no elevator. Tour the St. Augustine Light House and visit the lighthouse keepers suites in the museum along with other St. Augustine Lighthouse artifacts. Tours generally take about an hour. The lighthouse closes during inclement weather, call the observation deck at 904-829-0745 to check the tower's status. The last ticket to climb the tower is sold at 5:45 pm.
