St Augustine Lighthouse Goes Behind the Scenes

The St. Augustine Lighthouse Museum hosts a variety of events aside from their daily general admission, stair climb and Maritime museum.

One of these events is an all-exclusive Behind the Scenes Tour, which will certainly enhance your visit!

Go Behind the Scenes and see authentic shipwreck artifacts recently recovered from the ocean floor being brought back to life in our conservation lab! Learn about exciting new discoveries our archaeological research team is investigating on our ocean floors. You’ll also get to dig deeper into the story of St. Augustine’s lighthouse keepers on a guided tour through the keepers’ house.

These exclusive tours are available at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., seven days a week beginning August the 12th.

Another popular event held here at the historic grounds of the St. Augustine Lighthouse is their special luminary light! This year’s event takes place on December 7, 2016 from 7 – 9 p.m. This is when St. Augustine’s historic district is a-glow with millions of tiny white lights to celebrate the holiday season. This is otherwise known as our “Nights of Lights”.

The highlight of this holiday season at the lighthouse is Luminary Night, which takes place on the first Wednesday of every December.

Visitors and community members are invited to enter the lighthouse grounds for a free evening of children’s holiday crafts, warm refreshments, live musical performances (including a string quartet inside the lighthouse tower) and an up-close look at the museum’s Christmas decor. This is a special evening the whole family will enjoy at St. Augustine’s iconic lighthouse and museum.

We could not leave this post without giving a little detail on the haunted side of this historical landmark now could we? The Lighthouse indeed hosts its own ghost tour called The Dark of the Moon and it has to be one of the most popular for sure!

According to the St. Augustine Lighthouse’s official site in their words, “Don’t get stuck looking over the fence!” You must take the only tour that lets you investigate the most haunted place in St. Augustine!

“Conduct your own paranormal investigation of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum on this exclusive guided ghost tour that’s been featured on TAPS/Ghost Hunters, CNN, Parade Magazine, Fox News and The Weather Channel.”
