St Augustine Known as Happiest Seaside Town

Votes are in and Coastal Living’s “Top Ten Happiest Places by the Sea” article has listed St. Augustine as #4!

This comes to no surprise as our beautiful St. Augustine Beach is one of the top travel destinations these days! We are simply known for our amazing beaches, historical charm, attractions, and simply the place to relax on vacation!

Coastal Living’s article mentions our 450 year old history of course noting attractions such as the Fountain of Youth, the Forts, and our century-old churches which are all conveniently located near the inn.

Also mentioned is the Spanish Bakery on St. George Street, which has been serving empanadas, cookies, and fresh bread for nearly 40 years!

As noted by Coastal Living, our locals and visitors truly revel in our endless sands, beachcombing at Crescent Beach, surfing at St. Augustine Beach (and hitting its many surf shops), exploring beautiful Anastasia State Park by canoe, or playing along the super wide, quiet stretches of the shore that locals try to keep secret—Vilano Beach.

Out of ten other seaside towns, St. Augustine scored high among places such as Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Scarborough, Maine, St. Simons Island, Georgia, and another Florida location – Captiva Island.

How the Finalists Were Chosen

Coastal Living began with public nominations, plus all of the past places they’ve lauded as Dream Towns.

From there, they looked at the rank on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of sunny days, healthiness of beaches, commute times, crime ratings, walkability, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, geographic diversity, and the editors' assessment of each town's "coastal vibe.”
