St. Augustine has been named one of “America’s Twinkliest Towns” by Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine. The nation’s oldest city was the top winner in the “For the Romantic” category. Another accolade indeed, we are always excited to see our city mentioned! Our Nights of Lights Celebration has made the news many times over the past few years; including write ups by Forbes, National Geographic, and just about every travel blog out there! What an honor to see it again this year!
The story by writer Alex Pecci talks about the more than 3 million lights in the historic district of the “nearly 450-year-old Spanish colonial town.” The photo accompanying the story shows the Lightner Museum glowing during Nights of Lights. The Alcazar Hotel (now Lightner Museum) was built by Henry Flagler just before the turn of the century and is today one of the most visited museums in St. Augustine and also serves as our city hall. Most agree that this is by far one of the most beautifully-decorated buildings this time of year!
It also mentions taking a ride on the Holly Jolly Trolley, dining on “sustainable comfort food” at The Floridian, and having a drink at the “fun martini bar” at one of St. Augustine’s own bed and breakfast inns.
The magazine lists the winners in its December issue in the following categories:
For the Lederhosen-Loving: Leavenworth, Wash.
For the Block Partyer: Brooklyn, N.Y.
For the Romantic: St. Augustine, Fla.
For the Hipster: Austin, Texas
For the Wild Child: New Orleans, La.
