St Augustine Amphitheatre Hosts Annual Taste and Race

taste of st augustineWhat is Taste and Race you ask? Well, think of a taste of St Augustine – literally! Then a race – literally! A 5k to be exact!

Everyone likes to eat!  The popular Taste of St. Augustine event highlights the culinary heritage and culture of St. Johns County by showcasing new restaurants and established favorites.  Guests will sample local cuisine and learn about our area’s food culture!

This signature food festival held every year at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre serves up “tastes” from St. Augustine’s famous restaurants all at once!  From 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., restaurants will compete for the prestigious TOStA (Taste of St. Augustine) awards, with categories including Best Family Dining, Best Ethnic, Best Upscale and Best Dessert, as well as the ever-popular “People’s Choice.” Everyone in attendance gets to vote!

There will be a children’s area with fun activities including crafts and face-painting. Admission to the Taste of St. Augustine is $5 and taste tickets are $1 each with restaurants charging between 1 and 5 tickets per taste. Each ticket purchased gets a special coupon page with discounts to local attractions. Plus, the event features a “Race to the Taste” 5k run starting and ending at the Amphitheatre with a course going through Anastasia State Park and surrounding neighborhoods. The race starts at 10:30 a.m. and registration for the race is $25 in advance and $30 day of race. 1340C A1A South, St. Augustine.

New at the race this year is the Taste Academy! Starting April 20 and ending during the Taste, the Taste Academy will offer a variety of educational opportunities to learn more about local food sources, how to prepare foods, the culinary history of St. Augustine and about local food trends.  The Academy offerings will take place at various sites throughout the county.  Patrons of the Academy will also receive free admission to A Taste of St. Augustine.  The Academy will allow culinary enthusiasts the opportunity to delve deeper into our area’s culinary culture and heritage and will culminate at the Taste – a celebration of local food, local breweries/wineries and local music!
