Florida Heritage Book Festival Returns September 25th

The 2014 Florida Heritage Book Festival will be held from Thursday – Saturday, September 25 – 27, 2014 at the Flagler College Ringhaver Center. This exciting three-day festival and writer’s conference will honor legendary writer, Robin Cook. There will also be writer’s workshops where writers from all over the country will be able to collaborate and critique one another’s work. Writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry are encouraged to join this event.

Thursday, September 25 – Critique Workshop: This workshop will bring the Florida Heritage Book Festival’s faculty members and students together in small groups of no more than 12 writers to work on each other’s manuscripts. Writer of select fiction and non-fiction manuscripts will come together to critique each other’s 10-page submissions where each student will receive critiques for 30 minutes, and a one-page critique from the workshop leaders. This day will offer inspiration and motivation to each writer and their work.

The Faculty will include Elizabeth Sims; author of seven successful novels, including the Rita Farmer Mysteries (St. Martin’s Minotaur, and the Lambda Literary Award-winning Lillian Byrd novels [Alyson Books.]) The second faculty member will be Laura Lee Smith; the second place winner in the 2013 Florida Heritage Book Awards in the General Fiction category for Heart of Palm, also writer of short fiction included in New Stories from the South 2010, and writer of articles in various journals includingThe Florida ReviewNatural Bridge, and Bayou.

Friday, September 26 – Writers Workshop: This workshop will center on a full day of one-hour writers workshops covering both the craft and business of writing. Each writer will learn valuable insight on the business of writing, some practical advice, solid instructions, and the chance to network with fellow writers. (Registration for this event includes a keynote luncheon with New York Times bestselling author, Lisa Black.)

Friday Evening, September 26 – Florida Heritage Book Festival Literary Legend Awards

Banquet: Robin Cook will be present at this event to accept his award.  He will speak to the attendees and reflect on his new book and his long and successful career.

Saturday, September 27 – Flagler College Presentations and Marketplace: Selected writers will present their works, Robin Cook will be available for signatures, and there will be a marketplace where writers can shop for book-related products, meet publishers and authors, and collaborate with one another.

Presenters such as Thomas Graham author of Mr. Flagler’s St. Augustine, Mary Kay Andrews author of the poetry works Ladies’ Night, John Dufresne author of No Regrets, Coyote, and many more will be at this event. Click Here to see a detailed schedule of  where, and when they will be presenting.
