As an additional way to commemorate the National Park Service Centennial and provide more opportunities to "Find Your Park," the Castillo de San Marcos will have extended hours one Friday per month from May to September. Unburied Treasure " of St. Augustine--Sacred Vessels on loan from Boston Museum of Fine Arts" will be on exhibit at the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum.  The seven religious objects made of silver hollowware, date back to the 1600s and may well be among the earliest surviving items used in Christian worship in the United States. They were discovered in 1879 by workers in a St. Augustine citrus grove. The objects have been in Boston for the past 135 years. …

On the first Saturday of each month, Fort Matanzas presents cannon or musket firings, with period re-enactors demonstrating how Spanish soldiers in the colonial days defended Fort Matanzas from attackers. These living history demonstrations take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month, weather and staff permitting.
