Southern Exposure Heritage Festival

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (Feb 24, 2009)- Stetson Kennedy, Florida’s most beloved civil rights author, will be hosting the inaugural Southern Exposure Music & Heritage Festival at Alpine Groves Park on 54 beautiful acres adjacent to the St. Johns River. The festival features the best in old time music, country, bluegrass, folk, and blues. Activities for everyone include story telling, cultural exhibits, a barn dance, old Florida vendors, antiques, live animals, activities for children, crafts, and southern cookin’.

County music legend Charlie Louvin (Country Music Hall of Fame) headlines the event! Crowd favorites like bluegrass innovator John Cowan is sure to impress. Also appearing is local acoustic blues performer Willie Green, the legendary Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and the poetic David Dondero.

Alpine Grove River Park contains 54.5 acres and is located in northwest St. Johns County between the St. Johns River and William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway (SR13). Access to the site is provided from William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway, a magnificent winding scenic and historic highway defined by majestic canopy oak trees overhang the road that follows the St. Johns River’s eastern shoreline.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate the day of the event. Prices are: $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, children under 12 are free. Gates open 11:30am, music and activities begin at 12 noon and the park closes at sundown. Proceeds from the event are to benefit the Stetson Kennedy Foundation.
