If you have researched St. Augustine's history along with our events and things to do while vacationing here, chances are you've come across some haunted tales and a variety of nighttime ghost tours to look through! The Fountain of Youth - Florida's oldest attraction recently decided to add their name to that list.
Known as Shadows of the Past - this tour is surely to bring you on a journey of the unknown on Friday and Saturday nights!
The Fountain of Youth Park is a vast 15 acre expanse that seems to grow larger and more mysterious after the sun sets. As you take a guided tour of the Park, you will pass over hallowed ground which contains the remains of thousands of Native Americans who lived here before the Spanish landed and colonized the area. As the last light fades from the sky, you will experience the Timucuan Village of Seloy, lit by a warming campfire. You will walk through the 1565 Settlement Field of Pedro Menendez de Aviles, experiencing the awe of standing in the actual spot where giants of history made momentous decisions. You will explore the 600 foot Founders' Riverwalk, affording you spectacular views of the lights of downtown St. Augustine as they glitter upon Matanzas Bay. Come experience the eerie beauty of the Fountain of Youth Grounds after dark. Tours start at 8 pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before tour begins.
"The Fountain of Youth Park commemorates the 1513 arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon in Florida and the legend of the Fountain of Youth. People have lived on this site for over 3,000 years, since the Archaic period of Florida's history. There may be no other single property in Florida that contains such an array of important archaeological resources for our state's early history". – FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Tickets are 25.00 per adult for this event and may be pre-purchased and reserved through the Fountain of Youth's website or by phone at 904-829-3168.
