St. Augustine is close to 450 years old, which will be celebrated big in the year 2015. Throughout the five years leading up to the actual 450th birthday, many events take place to recognize our unique history. Residents and visitors young and old are involved in learning as well as celebrating our city.

The St. Augustine Youth Ambassadors, involved with the 450th Commemoration initiative, learned the inner workings of the bed and breakfast inns on their latest field trip.

In October, the group visited three historic inns on Cedar Street: Peace and Plenty Inn, owned by Glenna Terrell; Penny Farthing Inn, talking to Marie Watkinson; Cedar House Victorian Inn, where they talked to Cyndi Humphrey; and Journey’s End, owned by Tim Millbern.

The goal of the Youth Ambassadors program is to provide a deeper understanding and appreciation for the historical significance of St. Augustine. Now in year two, the four-year project allows the 40 Youth Ambassadors to equally take away and give back to their community until they graduate from high school in St. Augustine, Fl. Students participate in a variety of lectures, programs, field trips to local attractions, and interactions with project partners and other volunteers.

St Augustine Historic Inns is proud to offer these young leaders a tour of these historic inns. There are 24 inns in the nation's oldest city built as early as the year 1791. The inns play a significant role in the history of St. Augustine, many are listed on the National Registry of Historic Landmarks. All 24 inns offer a tour to the public the second weekend in December each year as their signature event. This is one weekend where tourgoers are able to view half of the inns on Saturday and half on Sunday. Each inn is decorated for the holidays and even partners with a local restaurant offering specialties along the way.
