St Augustine Lights up for the Christmas Season November 23rd

Celebrating a 20 year tradition this year, you do not want to miss “Light up Night” in Downtown, St Augustine! Ask anyone that has been, the final countdown in the plaza is packed as the Mayor flicks the magical switch that lights the city with over a million tiny white lights! Watch in amazement as the plaza is and historic square is transformed into a Christmas paradise! Tours roll through with carolers just about every few minutes packed with visitors and locals oohing and ahhing at this magical sight. The Lightner Museum is lit so beautifully, it is just a site that cannot be described!
The event is held each year from pre-Thanksgiving Weekend until January 30th offering plenty of nights for viewing whether you are here in the jam packed busiest week in between Christmas and New Year’s Day or the slower weekdays leading up until the big holiday. The event traces its origins to the Spanish tradition of displaying a white candle in the window during the Christmas holidays, the spectacular lighting reflects the city’s 448-year history and illuminates the beautiful setting for lasting holiday memories.
Nights of Lights has received national attention in previous years when National Geographic named it one of the world’s top ten holiday light displays! People have started popping up from all parts to view our city during these special times.
The 20th Annual Nights of Lights Celebration kicks off on November 23 at 6:30 p.m. in St. Augustine’s Plaza de la Constitucion. Holiday music and the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree accompany the official "Lights On!" If you have not already planned your stay, definitely start now as rooms will be filling quickly!
