Mumford & Sons Visit Dazzles St Augustine and the Agustin Inn Bed and Breakfast

09.18.13 11:32 AM

Grammy-Award-Winning Folk band Mumford & Son’s included St. Augustine last weekend as a venue for their Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Tour. Tickets were sold out and St. Augustine Inns were booked immediately after the announcement hit the city buzz!

Locals and visitors were struck with excitement as hotels began to book in fast and all the bed and breakfasts were packed solid for the weekend of September 13th and 14th. Worry crept in as to how in the world the small city would handle 25,000 plus cars, crowds, and concert-goers all at once.

The date came and went without a hitch to say the least. City management contracted tour buses to shuttle all the concert-goers in from several different locations as far off as World Golf Village and the St. Augustine Airport. This shuttle access came with purchased bracelets either online ahead of time or at the shuttle stops. Roads were closed within town to deter heavy traffic. The trolleys did not run that weekend but their staff handled all the bracelet online and on-site sales, which turned out to be a wonderful thing for many people.

At the Agustin and many of the St. Augustine bed and breakfasts, our concert guests had the A+ location from get-go! That’s right, no shuttle access required or car as the concert location was just within steps away from their beds those two nights!

The entire town greeted the band with welcome arms. As you drove through downtown St. Augustine the day before you could see murals in some of the business windows, décor all over, and yes… the Mustaches on just about every business! To top it off a hashtag was created #GOTRstaug where businesses, concert-goers, and anybody familiar with social media tagged their Mumford photos with!

The Agustin started preparing for their concert guests early! They began baking cookies with Mumford & Sons on them, placing British Flags all over the inn and courtyard, hung posters of not only Mumford but other participating bands, had music playing with these bands songs, and ah yes… our nifty staff was dressed accordingly! Not only with their British flag-designed aprons on but with their mustaches attached!

The gentlemen have not hit the road but won’t be forgotten easily! Check any St. Augustine news site right now and they are still the buzz!

In an online interview with USA TODAY, band mates Marcus Mumford and Ben Lovett said they were struck by the history and beauty at every turn here. "I find it really rare to be in America and see old stuff," said Mumford, commenting on his delight at finding things like "brickwork that's older than the country."  "There is something mystical about Florida and St. Augustine. We have fallen in love with it, basically."

During their visit and after their Saturday night performance in Francis Field, the band was spotted at multiple places around town; including one of our most visited attractions – the St. Augustine Alligator Farm!

This eventful weekend was sure one to remember and it leaves us with hope for more artists to look for St. Augustine as one of their stopovers! After all it is one of the most beautiful towns in the entire world!
